Beagle Training

Are Beagles difficult to train?  That depends.  Do you understand the breed?  Please learn about the breed first here! If you understand the breed, and understand what the Beagle was bred to do, and what they do instinctively, then you should understand that there are certain things your Beagle most likely just CANNOT do.  Is it difficult to teach a Beagle NOT to follow its nose on a scent trail?  Yes.  Is it impossible?  Usually yes.  Does this translate into the Beagle being seen as "stubborn," "independent," and "untrainable."  Yes.  But again, what are you asking of your Beagle?!  Beagles CAN be trained to be obedient and housetrained, but if you expect them to not steal food if it is readily available, or to follow you around outside without being on a leash, or to stay within an invisible fence, then you are not being fair to your Beagle, the breed, or yourself.  There are always exceptions to the breed, but Beagles are Beagles and you cannot train them to act like a Golden Retriever!

If your Beagle is experiencing behavioral issues, and is a CBR-East Beagle, please email us for assistance.
