Our mission is to take unwanted, neglected, abused, stray, homeless beagles, and beagles used in laboratory research and provide them with emotional, medical, behavioral and physical support so that they can be adopted into loving permanent homes.

Denise got involved in rescue work in 1998, in Portland, Oregon. It all started with Giani, CBR's mascot, and the reason CBR was formed. She has competed in obedience, tracking, agility and conformation with 4 of her 5 personal beagles. Please read Giani's story here and why Denise started in rescue.

Susan O'Brien

Susan was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. She has had beagles her entire life..in fact, her family had a beagle when she was born. Susan started working in rescue in 2001 and subsequently co-founded Cascade Beagle Rescue along with Denise Sproul. She relocated to Portland, Oregon in 2005 and is CBR's Vice President, Volunteer Coordinator & Intake Coordinator. CBR is proud to have Susan as our leader. Her compassion for beagles and ability to make the impossible happen is what keeps CBR moving forward. She has been known to work round the clock to help save a beagle's life. She is their best advocate..their voice when they can't speak for themselves....and of course, she is known as the "Cookie Mom" as she always has a pocket full of something to doll out to all of the rescue beagles (and her own!). She currently is owned by five beagles; Giani, Diva, Cher, Pippin & Strider. Giani and Strider are rescued angels. Giani's story can be viewed here. Strider was taken from a heart worm positive mother and fostered by Susan. How could she give him up? Well, she couldn't...he is now a 2 year old bouncing beagle boy and a permanent member of the family! Diva is from the TwainHeart Beagle kennels and comes from champion lines. She is an agility, tracking and obedience titled girl...who is ALL DIVA! Cher & Pippin are siblings, who are both show champions, are from Applegate Beagle kennels. They are sweet adorable and spoiled rotten just as any beagle should be!

Michelle Dodgson

Michelle joined the CBR team in January of 2006 as Adoption Coordinator. She jumped in head first and completed 72 adoptions her first year! She is now on CBR's Board of Directors. She is still our Adoption Coordinator, but does so much more. Michelle cares for each and every beagle that makes its way into the CBR fold. On serious medical cases, she is right there, gloves on, administering meds, wound care, even tube feeding premie puppies. CBR is greatly enhanced by having Michelle as an active director! She is owned by 4 beagles; Belle, Buster, Baxter & Bailey...all rescued. Interested in adoption information? Contact Michelle!

Gail Wilkening
Board Treasurer

Gail, who lives in Park Ridge, IL, has been a valuable member of CBR's Board of Directors. She has been instrumental in fundraising efforts and is on the sewing team for the CBR Gear store. She brings depth and compassion to the team. She has been a past President of the Board of Commissioners, Park Ridge Recreation and Park District. She has organized several large fundraising events to benefit beagles which raised thousands of dollars to help homeless beagles. Gail is owned by two rescued beagles; Josie and Oliver.
