Millie's Story

In November, 2009, Millie went missing from her owner's home.  There was snow, freezing temps.  She managed to fend for herself for two months in the wilderness.  Animal Control officers found her and tracked her owners down, but unfortunately, they didn't want her anymore.  She was emaciated, starving and dehydrated..but alive.  They kept her safe and started feeding her whatever she wanted, which she enjoyed.  Weeks turned in to months.  When CBR heard of her case we knew we had to help this 12-14 year old survivor.  On June 5, 2010 she officially became a CBR girl.  Her foster parents were waiting with open arms for her arrival.  The next day it was of to the vet.  We discovered that she was full of tapeworms and round worms.  Luckily she is heartworm negative.  She has significant arthritis making is painful for her to walk, but she still does.  Her teeth are painful and a mess and she has an abcess in her mouth.  Our vet aspirated some masses on her little body and one came up probably cancer.  It's on her left hind leg.  We were going to schedule this to be removed and a dental, but first we needed to run a full blood panel.

June 8th, we got the results of her lab work.  She has something going on with her liver.  We're not sure what exactly yet and she will need more testing. She is on medication now for the next seven days when she will be rechecked.

Some people feel that spending money on such a senior dog is not a good use of resources.  We feel that no matter how old she is, she deserves to live her days with the best of quality that we can provide for her.  We don't know how long she'll live...it could be months or years.  We're not that powerful to know that answer!  But even if she lives one day in our care, let it be the best day of her life. She will know she is loved and will have everything she needs.   If you feel the same, please consider sponsoring her.  We expect her veterinary care to reach nearly $1,000, by the time she has her surgery.

Please help us help Millie.
